Chronology of cameras Automatic Radio Mfg
At a time when everything is about spontaneity in the media, with the help of Twitter and smartphones, it might seem commonplace to associate a camera with a radio. However, we are in the 1940s, and the radio still works with tubes. The result is a 23-centimeter monolith, built of wood and covered with a paper decoration. Power is supplied by several batteries, including one of... 67 volts. You can imagine the total weight when it's in operation.
The camera is a cheap pseudo TLR made in Chicago. It is easily recognized as part of the Monarch family. Only the front embellisher, held by two screws, has been changed. The camera is held in the radio by four simple screws that pierce the camera from the inside to embed in the wood of the radio. You have to open the front flap for each view change, as no system has been designed to allow film advancement from the outside.
The front face, closed, then opened. You can see the four lamp tubes.
The batteries, including the large 67-volt one, occupy the entire bottom of the camera.
At the rear, the viewfinder cover and the wavelength scale. The left button enables power and the right one adjusts the wavelength.
The user manual is inside the back flap. It conceals the coiled antenna.
